生平
1946年，马林出生在美国加利福尼亚州洛杉矶，母亲叫埃尔莎，父亲叫奥斯卡·马林，在洛杉矶警察局工作。[1][2][3]马林出生之后是兔唇，后修复。[4]马林会讲西班牙语。马林的昵称“切奇”，来源于墨西哥一道小吃炸猪肉皮。
马林曾在加州的圣费尔南多谷读高中，大学在加州州立大学北岭分校度过。[5]1967年，马林搬迁到加拿大不列颠哥伦比亚的温哥华，以躲避越南战争。[6]在温哥华，马林结识了自己未来的喜剧搭档汤米·庄。
