阿尔弗雷德·马歇尔

阿尔弗雷德·马歇尔（Alfred Marshall，1842年7月26日－1924年7月13日），英國新古典學派经济学家。其主要著作《經濟學原理》自1890年出版，至1920年共更新8版，不但是當時英國最通行的經濟學參考書，其中有關供給需求、邊際效益與生產成本的重新整理更奠定其經濟學創始人之一的地位。

略年譜
Elements of economics of industry, 1892
  • 1842年生於倫敦的Bermondsey，並於倫敦郊外的Clapham成長。
  • 1861獲獎學金入剑桥大学圣约翰学院，學習西洋古典學與數學。儘管當收銀員的父親希望兒子成為牧師，馬歇爾仍堅持發展自己的數學稟賦；1865年，他以高分通過數學科的榮譽考試(Tripos, "second wrangler")。
  • 1865年 - 劍橋大學圣约翰学院聘馬歇爾為助手。
  • 1868年 - 劍橋大學聘為道德哲學講師。
  • 1868年 - 在德國德累斯顿，好讀如康德《純粹理性批判》、黑格爾《歷史哲學講義》等哲學作品。

在一封寄給統計學家、經濟學家Arthur Lyon Bowley的信裡，他寫道:「(1)把數學當作速記語言，而非探討的工具。(2)用這個方法一直到把想法完全記下為止。(3)將之譯為英文。(4)舉例說明為何這些想法在真實生活裡重要。(5)把數學燒掉。(6)如果你做不到(4)，就把(3)燒掉。我經常做這最後一點。」
