互用名
互用名(称),或称为保留名(称)、描述性名(称)、描述性科名等(英語:,拉丁語:,缩写:nom. cons.),是指一些因为历史原因,受到命名法规的特殊保护,而不会因命名法规的其他规定遭到废弃的特殊学名,《国际藻类、真菌、植物命名法规》和《国际动物命名法规》都有此类规定[1][2]。
相對之下,植物學法規還可以依不同條件將特定學名列為棄用名(英語:,拉丁語:,缩写:nom. rej.),以讓保留名成為唯一有效名。

动物学
在动物学中,更常使用英语「conserved name」而非拉丁语「nomen conservandum」,《国际动物命名法规》使用的也是前者,但两个名称可以互换使用。[2]
在命名法规的「词汇表」(glossary)中,conserved name被定义为:
例如,厚頭龍屬以学名Pachycephalosaurus被描述于1943年。但后来发现,早在1870年便以学名Tylosteus被描述的另一个类群,与Pachycephalosaurus为异物同名。按照一般规定,Tylosteus应当按照优先律称为合法的接受名,但是國際動物命名法委員會依照唐纳德·贝尔德的提议,以Pachycephalosaurus更常用、更出名,而Tylosteus超过50年没有被使用,化石证据也难以检验为由,将Pachycephalosaurus处理为厚头龙属的合法学名[3][4]。
