雖然許多新加坡馬來人是混血兒,但新加坡憲法第十三部分,一般條款,少數民族和馬來人特殊地位仍然被認定為新加坡的原居民,第152條:“For Malays in Singapore, the last name is patronymic, not a family name. The person should be referred to by his or her first or second name which is the given name. The Malay word bin (b.) or binte (bte.), if used, means "son of" or "daughter of" respectively.”
