極道
極道（日语：／ Gokudō）俗稱 Yakuza，指日本社会裡從事暴力或有组织犯罪活动的人士或团体。“”这一俗稱來自日本紙牌遊戲花札（玩法一說是「」）的一個最壞組合「八九三」（ヤクザ），或說是指鄉里仲裁糾紛的單位「役座」（）而來（因江湖人士總處於糾紛之中），還有說法是「役者」（）轉音而成（指黑道人士作風高調如歌舞伎演員「役者」）。[2]

日本黑幫人士
歷史上由奉祀神農大帝、天照大神、八幡大菩薩、春日權現等神祇的商業團體衍生而成。江戶時代神社廟會週邊的攤商被稱為「的屋」（奉祀神農大帝、天照大神）及經營賭場的「博徒」（奉祀春日權現、八幡大菩薩）。現代日本黑道的儀式活動仍受「的屋」與「博徒」的影響。
雖均自命為「任俠團體」，但通常日本政府和日本警察將其指為暴力團。日本政府又公告了指定暴力团，華人熟知的山口組是其中之一。
