1922年，布魯寧與第一任妻子艾格尼絲·C·布魯寧（Agnes C. Breuning，1895年4月1日－1957年7月16日）結婚，不過她於1957年過世。之後布魯寧在1958年10月5日娶了第二任妻子瑪格麗特·布魯寧（Margaret Breuning，1904年2月3日－1975年1月15日），直到1975年1月15日瑪格麗特過世為止。
逝世
2011年4月14日，布魯寧逝世，享嵩壽114歲205天。
