分类
传统上，真口类包含以下几个类群：
- ?†棘鱼纲 Acanthodii（可能是个属于软骨鱼纲的并系群）
- 硬骨鱼高纲 Osteichthyes（=硬骨脊椎动物 Euteleostomi，=真硬骨鱼 Euosteichthyes）[1][2]
存在于史前的棘鱼纲一向来被视为现生硬骨鱼的旁系群，鲨鱼所在的软骨鱼纲则是它们的外类群，然而，近来发现棘鱼纲更像是软骨鱼纲演化过程中的一系列旁系群，而且极大可能是个并系群，这也使得真口类很可能只有硬骨鱼这一有效类群。
