深度
水深2-150公尺。
特徵
本魚體形延長，頭短而高，口裂狹，下顎口角具唇溝。鰓裂5對，噴水孔小。體色為褐色且具深褐色鞍狀斑，並佈滿黑色圓斑點。背鰭兩枚且具硬棘，尾鰭後緣具缺刻。體長可達122公分。
生態
本魚游動緩慢，屬夜行性，獨居性。棲息在沙地淺灘、礁岩洞穴以及海藻床，成魚幾乎每天會回到原來的地方。屬肉食性，吃魚類和底棲的無脊椎動物，尤其是海膽、螃蟹等。卵生的，卵約長12-14釐米，呈海帶的顏色及螺旋狀，會隨海水飄浮至沙灘。。若被騷擾時可能會咬人。
經濟利用
可作飼養魚水族館供人觀賞。
