Yellow Submarine (歌曲)

當Paul獲得其創作靈感時，他正住在珍妮·阿什家人的屋中。他如此描述其經歷[3]：

I was laying in bed in the Ashers' garret... I was thinking of it as a song for Ringo, which it eventually turned out to be, so I wrote it as not too rangey in the vocal, then started making a story, sort of an ancient mariner, telling the young kids where he'd lived. It was pretty much my song as I recall... I think John helped out. The lyrics got more and more obscure as it goes on, but the chorus, melody and verses are mine.

'Yellow Submarine' is Paul's baby. Donovan helped with the lyrics. I helped with the lyrics too. We virtually made the track come alive in the studio, but based on Paul's inspiration. Paul's idea. Paul's title... written for Ringo.[3]

Yellow Submarine 是 Paul 的得意之作，Donovan 有寫部分的歌詞(Sky of blue and sea of green)[5]，我亦有。樂隊在錄音室中令這歌獲得生命，但這有賴 Paul 的創作。

Paul：

It's a happy place, that's all. You know, it was just... We were trying to write a children's song. That was the basic idea. And there's nothing more to be read into it than there is in the lyrics of any children's song.[3][6]

Yellow Submarine 由喬治·馬丁監製，1966年5月26日於艾比路錄音室2號房錄音，前後共錄了五次，6月1日加上特別效果[5]。歌曲中的滑稽音效都是由喬治·馬丁加上，以營造航海的氣氛[7]，如鐵鏈、海浪、風聲、水聲。此外John在水中吹氣造出氣泡的聲音，他與 Paul 在鐵罐中對話扮演船長與船員溝通，Ringo 在錄音室外大喊 Cut the cable! Drop the cable! 等等[5]。

在歌詞 and the band begins to play (然後樂隊開始演奏)後，加插了一小段配樂。此配樂為一段經加工的銅管樂，但有人相信這是1906年的 Le Reve Passe[5]。此外，原本 Ringo 在歌曲開首作簡短介紹，但於6月3日被剪掉[5]。

美國原裝單曲唱片

Yellow Submarine 是 The Beatles 在英國發行的第13張單曲，於8月5日與 Eleanor Rigby 以雙A面出售，在美國則於8月8日出售。一日後 Revolver 發行[8]。

此單曲在四星期內賣了1,200,000張，並獲得The Beatles第21項金唱片獎。

它在告示牌百強單曲榜中排第二、Record World 雜誌排第一、Cashbox 雜誌排第二[5]。或許它得不到第一是因為＂屠夫封面＂（Yesterday and Today 專輯的封面）的爭議[5]和 John＂比耶穌更受歡迎＂的言論[9]。

利物浦機場的雕像

來自卡梅爾·萊爾德造船廠的學徒造了一個51尺(16米)長的黃色潛水艇金屬雕像，慶祝1984年的國際園藝博覽會。2005年它被安放於利物浦約翰·列儂機場，直至現在。

1966年芬蘭的 Simo & Spede 翻唱為「黃色破冰船」﹝芬蘭語：﹞。

瑞典歌手 Per Myrberg 在1966年10月以「黃色、黃色、黃色是我們的潛水艇」﹝瑞典語：﹞翻唱，搖滾樂隊 Hjalle & Heavy 在1998年以「黃色潛水艇」﹝瑞典語：﹞翻唱。他們將歌詞直譯作瑞典語，而不轉變其旋律。

1966年，法國的莫里斯·舍瓦利耶以「綠色潛水艇」﹝法語：﹞翻唱[11][12]。

Mrs. Miller 和 Black Dyke Mills Band 在1966和1968年也有翻唱。2002年 Roots Manuva 在 Badmeaningood 2 專輯中以說唱形式翻唱[13]。Raffi 在他的專輯 Let's Play 中亦唱了這歌，以及皇家愛樂樂團以管弦樂形式將其重現[14]。

兒童節目中也用到這首歌，如 Fun Song Factory 和芝麻街。
