無名塚

無名塚是為在戰事死亡而身份無法被確認的軍人所立的墓碑。歷史上很多軍人在戰事中犧牲後，身份無法被辨認，現代的國家為這種軍人設立無名塚。無名塚埋有身份不明軍人的骸骨，部份無名塚的墓碑會刻上“唯有上帝知晓（known but to God）”的字样，無名塚亦象徵其他在戰事中犧牲，而未被發現的軍人。

歷史

世界上第一個無名塚應該是1858年在丹麥因第一次什勒斯維希戰爭而立的Landsoldaten (「步兵」)紀念碑。另一個早期的同類紀念碑是為南北戰爭中身份不明的死者而立的1866紀念碑。

自英國在西敏寺埋葬一位無名戰士，以他代表所有第一次世界大戰中的英軍後，開創了現代設立無名塚的趨勢。由於在西敏寺埋葬是一種榮譽，故英國將無名軍人靈柩安葬於西敏寺，具有深遠意義。無名戰士的靈柩被送入西敏寺時，由當時國王喬治五世跟隨在後，而一百名領受維多利亞十字勳章的人士負責護送[1]。無名戰士墓碑的部份碑文為：「他們把他埋葬在君王間，因為他為神和家族行好事。」

其他國家亦跟隨此例，其中一著名例子為法國在1921年為紀念在第一次世界大戰中身份不明的死者，而在巴黎凱旋門之下設立的無名塚，另一個例子是加拿大渥太華的加拿大戰爭紀念碑。

這些紀念碑亦紀念在其後戰爭中犧牲而身份未明的軍人。
